About this position

PhD opportunity at the Luxembourg Institute of Health in the Department of Infection and Immunity, within the Immuno-Pharmacology and Interactomics group.

The project is part of the MICRO-PATH Doctoral Training Unit (“Pathogenesis in the Age of the Microbiome”) and focuses on pharmacology, microbiome research, GPCR biology, immunology, cell biology, and biomedical sciences. The specific topic is “Illuminating the crosstalk between the gut microbiome and host GPCRome,” with an emphasis on microbiome-derived metabolites, receptor modulation, and disease mechanisms relevant to precision medicine.

The work involves building an advanced platform for functional profiling and quantification of active metabolites or factors secreted by the microbiome in serum, stool, or bacterial culture media, and studying their interactions with GPCRs and their role in chronic disease pathogenesis.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Pharmacology, Biomedical Sciences, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. Experience in receptor biology or microbiome research is an advantage. Required skills include cell culture, microbiology, bioassay development and validation, PCR, cloning, gene expression analysis, and familiarity with GPCR pharmacology, signaling assays, or ligand screening. Data analysis skills in GraphPad Prism, R, or Python are preferred. English fluency is mandatory; French is an asset.

This is a fixed-term PhD contract for 36 months. Applications must be submitted online via the LIH careers website with a motivation letter and CV; email applications will not be considered.

Supervisors: Dr. Martyna Szpakowska and Dr. Andy Chevigné.
