About this position

PhD Student and Postdoc opportunities are available in the Department of Theoretical and Computational Biophysics at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, Germany, under Prof. Dr. Helmut Grubmüller.

The project focuses on theory and methods for non-equilibrium theory and atomistic simulations of complex biomolecules. Research topics include variational free energy methods, thermodynamics of solvation shells, constant-pH simulation methods, Markovian thermodynamics, and functional mechanisms of the ribosome, fatty acid synthase, CRISPR/Cas, and intrinsically disordered proteins.

Applicants should have strong skills in computational molecular (bio)physics, statistical mechanics, and scientific computing, with an interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration with experimental groups. PhD candidates must hold or soon complete a Master’s or equivalent degree in physics, mathematics, or a related field; postdoc candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in a related field.

Funding includes three years for PhD students through available PhD programs in collaboration with the University of Göttingen. The postdoc appointment is for two years with a possible extension, and compensation follows TVöD Bund guidelines. The group language is English, and no German language skills are required. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

To apply, send a cover letter, CV, and transcripts as a single PDF by email to [email protected].
