About this position
Ph.D. student or Postdoc position (f/m/d) in advanced operando spectroscopy of heterogeneous catalysts at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany.
The project is part of the collaborative research network SFB/TRR 247 “Heterogeneous Oxidation Catalysis in the Liquid Phase” and is jointly supervised by Prof. Dr. Serena DeBeer and Dr. Olaf Rüdiger. The research focuses on understanding electrocatalytic heterogeneous materials under in-situ and operando conditions using advanced X-ray spectroscopy methods, including XAS, XES, and RXES, both in-house and at synchrotron facilities.
This opportunity is open at both the doctoral and postdoctoral level. The Ph.D. track is a 3-year doctoral program; the postdoc appointment is initially for 12 months with the possibility of additional one-year renewals. The position is funded through the collaborative network, with Ph.D. remuneration according to Max Planck Society funding guidelines for junior scientists and postdoctoral pay according to TVöD (Bund).
Applicants should have a Master’s degree for the Ph.D. role or a Ph.D. for the postdoc role in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field. Experience in electrochemistry, inorganic chemistry, and/or X-ray spectroscopy applied to electrocatalysis is an advantage, but enthusiastic candidates without all of these skills are also encouraged to apply. The working language is English.
