The Erlangen Center for Interface Research and Catalysis (ECRC) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen–Nürnberg (FAU) is offering a PhD student position in the Libuda Group, focusing on new concepts and materials in catalysis. The research will center on in situ and operando studies of real and model catalysts, aiming to unravel highly selective (de)functionalization reactions. The project will investigate the role of catalytic modifiers, additives, and activation procedures to establish structure-property relationships, using advanced experimental techniques.
Key methodologies include in situ and operando infrared spectroscopy (DRIFTS, PM-IRAS), with additional microscopy methods such as scanning tunneling microscopy and atomic force microscopy employed where appropriate. The successful candidate will design and execute experiments, analyze measurements, develop robust data-analysis workflows, collaborate within an interdisciplinary team, present results at conferences, and contribute to manuscripts and student mentoring.
