About this position

Oxford Brookes University is advertising a 3-year full-time PhD studentship in nutrition science, behaviour change, brain health, and digital health. The project is titled From nutrition science education to behaviour change: development and evaluation of a Brain Health Score (BHS) within a developed digital nutrition intervention.

The research is based within the Oxford Institute of Applied Health Research and the Centre for Nutrition and Health, in collaboration with Think Through Nutrition and its LANAH digital platform. The project will develop and validate a novel Brain Health Score for diet quality and cognitive health, compare it with established indices, and evaluate a digital intervention aimed at dietary behaviour change. It also examines whether dietary changes improve mental health, cognition, and wellbeing.

The studentship focuses on under-served perinatal cohorts, including women in MBUs and community perinatal care, and is framed around real-world health technology and interdisciplinary methods. The work spans nutrition science, psychometrics, digital health, and behaviour change, with opportunities for impact case studies, conference presentations, and publications.

Funding: UKRI-rate stipend (£21,805 for 2026/27), tuition fees, and bench fees are covered, subject to funding confirmation.

Eligibility: Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a UK 2:1 degree or overseas equivalent in a relevant subject. International/EU applicants must meet the English language requirement (IELTS Academic or equivalent, overall 6.5–7.0 with no band below 6.0, within the last 2 years).

Deadline: 30 September 2026. Interviews are expected online in November 2026, with a start date of 18 January 2027.

How to apply: Email [email protected] for application information. Programme queries can be sent to Dr Jonathan Tammam at [email protected].
