About this position
Bournemouth University’s Cyber Competence Centre is offering a fully funded PhD studentship on securing the human-AI decision boundary through Cognitive Digital Twins for adaptive cyber defence.
This project sits at the intersection of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, generative AI, human cognition, and decision-making. It explores how cybersecurity professionals interpret AI-generated information, manage uncertainty, build trust, and make risk judgments in Security Operations Centre environments. A central aim is to develop a Cognitive Security Twin, a dynamic computational representation of how an individual interacts with AI in security work.
The studentship is linked to Bournemouth University’s participation in the HORIZON projects SCIFER and MosAIcSOC, and benefits from the university’s new Cyber Competence Centre, which supports realistic cyber incident simulation and AI-supported threat detection and response.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should normally hold a 1st class honours degree or equivalent GPA, or a Master’s degree with distinction or equivalent. For international applicants, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each component (or equivalent) is required.
Funding: the position is fully funded and includes a yearly stipend to support living costs.
Location: Bournemouth University, Talbot Campus, United Kingdom.
