About this position
Osnabrück University is advertising a PhD/Postdoc position in the research project Dynamic Incentives, Information, and Strategic Decisions under Uncertainty (DISCU). The project investigates how incentives, information, and strategic decision-making shape dynamic economic transformation processes under uncertainty. The position is based in the Department of Economics (Wirtschaftswissenschaften) and focuses on developing and analysing formal dynamic models of economic transformation, with particular attention to intertemporal decision problems and the role of information under uncertainty.
The appointment is available either as a PhD track at 66.67% or as a Postdoc track at 100%, both under TV-L E13, initially for three years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The call is especially suitable for applicants with a strong formal-analytical background and interest in dynamic modelling, optimization, and uncertainty.
Preferred academic backgrounds include Economics, Business Administration, Mathematical Economics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Systems Science, Physics, or related disciplines. Applicants should have very good knowledge in at least one of the following areas: dynamic optimization, optimal control, dynamic programming, dynamical systems, decision theory under uncertainty, or comparable formal dynamic modelling. Experience with analytical or numerical methods for dynamic models, stability, bifurcation or sensitivity analysis, optimal transition paths, HJB equations, ODE/PDE modelling, differential games, value-of-information analysis, or programming tools such as MATLAB, Mathematica, or Python is particularly welcome.
For the PhD track, a very good Master’s or Diplom degree is required; for the Postdoc track, a very good doctorate in a relevant field is required. Good English language skills are required.
The application deadline is 18 September 2026. Applications should be sent by email to [email protected]. Further information is available via the DISCU research programme page and the official Osnabrück University advertisement.
