About this position

The Frydman group at the Weizmann Institute of Science, following the award of an ERC Advanced Grant, is offering a fully funded PhD position focused on developing new methods in magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. The research will center on advanced techniques such as steady-state free-precession (SSFP) to enhance the resolution and sensitivity of NMR spectra and MRI images, as well as spectral transformations that enable translation between different types of magnetic resonance data.

The Weizmann Institute is Israel’s top-ranked academic institution and is internationally recognized for its research excellence. Located in Rehovot, near Tel Aviv, the campus offers a vibrant scientific environment with over a dozen research groups specializing in magnetic resonance, spectroscopy, imaging, and spin physics. The Institute is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a 1 GHz NMR spectrometer with cryoprobes, pulsed EPR spectrometers, multinuclear animal scanners, advanced human MRI scanners, DNP hyperpolarizers, and numerous other instruments. PhD students benefit from furnished housing options, a supportive international community, and relatively light coursework.

The studentship covers all tuition fees and provides a monthly stipend for four years (currently 9,000 NIS/month for regular PhD students, with higher rates for MD/DVM holders and competitive external fellowships). A travel allowance of $4,250 is also included. Applicants must have an undergraduate and MSc or equivalent degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Computer Science, with a minimum average grade of 85%, and demonstrate excellent English proficiency.

The position is open to candidates worldwide. For more information on fellowships and application procedures, visit the Weizmann School of Science website or contact the Frydman group directly.
