About this position
Ghent University in Belgium is recruiting a post-doctoral assistant in the Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical Engineering (Faculty of Engineering and Architecture).
The position is centered on chemical engineering, computational chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, DFT calculations, kinetic modelling, transport phenomena, and machine learning. The successful candidate will contribute to multiple parallel projects, including first-principles reaction modelling, catalyzed reaction kinetics in gas and/or liquid phase, reactor-scale modelling, and the development and application of ML methods for structure-property relationships.
This is a temporary 3-year appointment at 70%, supplemented by a 30% post-doctoral scientific personnel position funded by the department, effectively making it a full-time role. Salary is according to AAP5. A second 3-year appointment may follow after a positive evaluation.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering by the start date. The post also asks for prior research experience in reaction modelling, thermodynamics, transport phenomena, and machine learning; strong programming skills in Python, Fortran, and Visual Basic; experience with scikit-learn, Keras, and TensorFlow; strong communication skills; and fluency in English and Dutch. Candidates should already be based in Belgium or be willing to relocate. For diplomas from outside the EU, a NARIC certificate of equivalence is required.
Application is via the online e-recruitment system. The deadline is 22 October 2026 at 23:59 Brussels time. Required documents include a merged CV and publication list, cover letter, diploma transcript, and, where applicable, proof of equivalence.
