About this position
Ghent University is offering a post-doctoral assistant position in the Department of Marketing, Innovation and Organisation (EB23) within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The role is based in Ghent, Belgium, and is a temporary appointment at 80% for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of a second appointment of up to 3 years after a favourable evaluation.
The successful candidate will devote at least 70% of the appointment to academic research in data analytics, data science, and machine learning. A substantial part of the role also involves fundraising and research funding acquisition, including preparing grant applications for schemes such as FWO, BOF, HORIZON, and other funding channels. The post-holder will be expected to actively seek collaboration opportunities that support the valorization of research and to take a leading role in these activities.
In addition to research and grant development, the appointment includes teaching and supervision. The post-doctoral assistant will support Bachelor’s and Master’s-level teaching, especially in methodological courses such as Data Mining and Machine Learning, taught in Dutch or English. The role also includes guidance for Master’s students in exercises, internships, and dissertations, and a service contribution to the research group. Duties may also include delivering seminars for PhD students and co-supervising PhD students.
The position is aimed at applicants with a doctoral degree in Applied Economic Sciences, preferably with a specialization in Business Engineering: Data Analytics. Candidates should already have research experience in data science and machine learning, strong quantitative research skills, and proficiency with Python, R, Git, and Linux. Excellent English and Dutch are required. Experience supervising master’s theses and peer-reviewed publications are welcomed.
