About this position
Post-doctoral fellow position at Lund University in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (MGeo) for the TreeChange project, focused on global forest dynamics, forest ecology, vegetation modelling, and carbon cycling.
The fellow will work with the LPJ-GUESS dynamic vegetation model and tree demographic information from ground-based inventory plot data to assess how tree growth, mortality, and the global forest carbon sink are changing now and in the future. The role involves model development, preparing and analysing observational datasets, designing simulations, analysing results, and leading peer-reviewed publications.
The position is based at Lund University, Sweden, and the fellow will collaborate with project nodes in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, as well as a wider international research network. The post is also connected to the BECC research platform, a collaboration between Lund University and the University of Gothenburg.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) in biology, ecology, or a related numerate scientific discipline, completed within the last three years unless special circumstances apply. Strong English, documented programming skills, and a publication record are required. Experience with process-based modelling, vegetation modelling, forest ecological processes, and C++ is advantageous.
Funding and terms: this is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral employment for 2 years. Teaching may be included only as a minor part of the role, and three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning are included.
Application deadline: 2026-11-02.
