About this position
A post-doctoral position is available in the MIMM team of the CEISAM laboratory at Nantes Université, France, in the area of benchtop NMR-based metabolomics for clinical research.
The successful candidate will join a project led by Marine Letertre and Patrick Giraudeau in collaboration with Bruker and Claire Cannet. The research focuses on developing compact NMR methods for clinical metabolomics, with particular attention to an 80 MHz benchtop NMR instrument for high-throughput analysis of biofluid samples. The postdoctoral researcher will adapt new high-throughput and highly resolved pulse sequences, originally designed for high-field NMR, to improve performance on benchtop systems and support research use of compact NMR spectroscopy.
The project has a strong translational orientation. It aims to provide clinicians with tools to target known biomarkers, quantify them in biofluids for routine clinical analysis, and perform untargeted screening to detect metabolic differences between patients with different pathologies. This makes the position especially relevant for researchers interested in metabolomics, biomarker analysis, patient phenotyping, and applications at the interface of analytical chemistry and clinical research.
The work will involve NMR spectroscopy, analytical chemistry, metabolomics, data processing, statistical analysis, and close interaction with the MIMM team. The role also includes meetings and visits to Bruker’s metabolomics facility in Ettlingen, Germany. The CEISAM laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers ranging from 43 to 700 MHz and provides a strong environment for solution-state NMR method development and mixture analysis.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in chemistry or physics and have a proven background in magnetic resonance instrumentation. Experience with NMR of complex mixtures or NMR metabolomics is required, while experience with Bruker pulse sequence development is an advantage. Strong communication skills, teamwork, and interest in clinical metabolomics are important. Advanced English is mandatory; French or German is a plus.
The position is based in Nantes, a vibrant city near the Atlantic coast of Brittany. The application deadline is 24 August 2026, with interviews planned between 24 August and 5 September 2026. The expected start date is 1 October 2026.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
