The Católica Biomedical Research Centre at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Oeiras, Portugal, is offering a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship (BIPD) in Cell Biology. This opportunity is part of the RejuMiFy project, which investigates mitotic fidelity in rejuvenated cells using advanced cellular reprogramming techniques. The research aims to understand how biological state—age versus pluripotency—affects mitotic fidelity, with implications for the safe use of rejuvenated cells in downstream biomedical applications.

The successful candidate will work under the scientific supervision of Professor Ines Milagre, with Professors Raquel Oliveira and Nelson Martins as effective members of the selection panel. The work plan includes identifying stages of mitosis and common mitotic abnormalities, comparing old and rejuvenated cells, modulating key mitotic players, and analyzing the effects on mitotic fidelity. The candidate will gain hands-on experience in human cell culture, molecular cloning, transfection, immunofluorescence, microscopy (fixed and live cell imaging), and quantitative analysis of mitotic defects.

The fellowship is funded by national funds through Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia and offers a monthly maintenance allowance of €1,901, paid by wire transfer. Personal accident insurance is provided, and social security options are available if not already covered. The initial duration is 5 months, with the possibility of renewal according to applicable regulations. The planned start date is June 15, 2026.

Applicants must have completed a PhD in Biology or Biomedicine within the last three years and must not have completed their doctoral work at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Eligibility is limited to candidates who have not exceeded three years in this type of fellowship, including renewals. At least one year of laboratory experience in a related subject is required, and experience in reprogramming, stem cell biology, mitosis, advanced imaging techniques, imaging analysis, and molecular and cell biology techniques is highly valued. Proficiency in English, strong communication skills, independence, and motivation are essential.
