About this position
A post-doctoral research grant is open at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), within GreenUPorto, under the project BacterYeas 2HORT (Bacteria/yeast-loaded microparticles for non-toxic biofertilization and increased tolerance to abiotic stress: adapting horticulture to climate change). The project is financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and focuses on biotechnology, microbiology, and plant physiology, with a clear application to sustainable horticulture and climate-change adaptation.
The successful candidate will join research activities at FCUP in Porto, Portugal, and will contribute to greenhouse trials assessing the biofertilization efficiency of microbial inoculants in horticultural crops. The role includes non-destructive ecophysiological monitoring, biochemical analyses of morpho-physiological and metabolic responses to bioinoculation, quality measurements, data analysis and interpretation, manuscript and report preparation, scientific presentations, and dissemination/outreach activities.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD in Agricultural Engineering, Biology, or a related area, obtained within the three years prior to the application date. If the degree was awarded outside Portugal, it must be formally recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution before hiring. The project also values hands-on experience with bacteria and/or fungi in plant systems, plant–microorganism interactions under abiotic stress, experimental design for physiological and biochemical stress assays, and participation in scientific dissemination.
Funding: the scholarship stipend is 1901€ per month, paid by bank transfer, with voluntary social insurance and personal accident insurance as specified in the call. The initial duration is 6 months, beginning on 2026-11-01, and it may be renewed up to the project end date of 2027-06-30.
Application window: the call is open from 2026-09-28 to 2026-10-12. Applications must be submitted online via the Infociências page and include a motivation letter, detailed CV, academic certificate, eligibility declaration, and any other relevant documents, all in a single ZIP file.
Supervision: the work will be carried out under the guidance of Dr Sandra Cristina Carvalho Hilário. The selection committee also includes faculty members from FCUP. Interviewed candidates will be evaluated on their CV, prior research experience, and English proficiency.
