About this position
Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is advertising a Post-doctoral Researcher in Electrochemistry at the Junior Professorship for Physical Chemistry at Interfaces, based at the Chair of Particle-Based Materials Chemistry in the Faculty of Sciences.
This is a research-focused postdoctoral opening in electrochemistry, physical chemistry, materials science, and scanning probe microscopy. The successful candidate will conduct experiments using EC-AFM, SECM, and related operando/in-situ characterization methods to study thin-film growth, surface restructuring, degradation, and electrocatalytic reactions. The role also involves correlating local surface morphology, chemical activity, and electrochemical performance, analyzing microscopy/electrochemical datasets, publishing peer-reviewed papers, mentoring junior researchers, and contributing to laboratory management.
The position is connected to DFG-funded CRC 1719 ChemPrint and RTG 3103 CorMic, offering an international and interdisciplinary research environment, access to state-of-the-art equipment, and training opportunities through an integrated Research Training Group. Internal seed funding and early-career support may also be available for future independent career applications.
Applicants must hold a PhD in electrochemistry, physical chemistry, materials science, or a related field. Strong experience with AFM/STM/EC-AFM/c-AFM/KPFM/SECM is required, while thin-film electrodeposition, atomic layer deposition, X-ray scattering, electron microscopy, Python, or MATLAB are advantageous. Excellent English is required; German is a plus.
The position starts immediately, is full-time, and is initially limited to 1 year with possible extension up to 2 additional years depending on performance. The application deadline is 2026-09-04. Apply online only via FAU’s application portal; e-mail applications are not accepted.
