About this position
Jena University Hospital (Universitätsklinikum Jena) is inviting applications for a Post-doctoral researcher (m/f/d) in the Functional Proteome Analysis Working Group. This is a full-time, temporary postdoctoral position based in Jena, Thuringia, Germany, within the ERC Starting Grant project PerturbPhos (Grant agreement ID: 101222284).
The project focuses on developing ultra-sensitive mass spectrometry-based phosphoproteomics technologies to study how drugs affect a patient’s tumor proteome. The successful candidate will build and optimize a scalable phosphoproteomics platform for high-dimensional perturbation experiments in primary cells, analyze large-scale phosphoproteomics datasets using R or Python, and help integrate prior knowledge to characterize drug-induced phosphorylation changes. The role also involves communication across interdisciplinary teams and dissemination of results through presentations and publications.
This position is well suited to researchers with a strong background in proteomics, mammalian cell culture, and omics data analysis who want to work in a translational environment at the interface of biology, clinical research, and computational analysis. Experience with low-input phosphoproteomics, clinical patient material, or small molecule drugs is especially welcome.
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in (bio)chemistry, molecular biology, systems biology, or a related field. Additional strengths sought include the ability to independently develop and troubleshoot MS-based workflows, a strong publication record, high research integrity, and excellent scientific writing and presentation skills in English. Collaborative skills are important because the project involves clinicians, biologists, and bioinformaticians.
The appointment is classified according to TV-L pay grade E13, subject to fulfilment of the relevant personal and collective agreement requirements. The contract is limited to 24 months with an option to extend. Jena University Hospital also highlights a range of employee benefits including continuing education, pension provision, vacation entitlement, health services, and family-friendly support.
The application deadline is 9 November 2026 at 06:00 (Europe/Berlin). Applications should be submitted through the online application link provided in the advert, using reference number DM20/2026.

Applicants should have theoretical knowledge and practical skills in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, ideally hands-on experience in low-input phosphoproteomics, demonstrated experience with mammalian cell culture and sample preparation for MS analysis, and the ability to independently develop and troubleshoot MS-based proteomics workflows. Prior experience with clinical patient material and/or characterizing small molecule drugs is desired. Proficiency in R or Python for omics data analysis, including statistical analysis and integration of multiple datatypes, is required. The post also seeks a strong track record of scientific excellence, rigorous research practice, commitment to research integrity, strong teamwork and communication skills in interdisciplinary settings, and excellent scientific writing and presentation skills in English.
