About this position
Université de Bordeaux is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Researcher for the NACRE Project within the Bordeaux Population Health Center (BPH, Inserm U1219), a major French center for population health research. The position is based in Bordeaux, France, and is a full-time, 36-month fixed-term contract starting 1 October 2026. The post is funded under an Other EU programme and offers a gross monthly salary of €2,751 to €3,037, depending on profile and pay grid.
The research focus is highly interdisciplinary, combining environmental epidemiology, spatial statistics, GIS, and cancer research. The selected postdoctoral researcher will contribute to methodological development and implementation of task 1.1.2, with emphasis on building geographical indicators of environmental exposure from satellite and geographic data. The project seeks to study associations between residential environmental exposures and cancers, with priority given to central nervous system tumors, and also including hematological malignancies, sarcomas, and other solid tumors.
Core activities include developing exposure indicators for atmospheric contaminants such as gaseous pollutants and pesticides; integrating data from CNES, cancer registries, and partner institutions; and contributing to a geographic information system for estimating residential exposures and creating geographic databases. The role also involves applying spatial statistical models, including Bayesian approaches, to analyze associations between exposures and cancer incidence, as well as validating methods through comparison with field measurements.
The postdoctoral fellow will participate in the scientific coordination of the NACRE consortium and interact with institutional and academic partners including CNES, IGN, University of Poitiers, CNRS, and CEBC. The role also includes producing scientific reports, project deliverables, publications, and conference communications at national and international levels.
Eligibility highlights include a doctorate in Health-Environment, Epidemiology, or Biostatistics; demonstrated experience in environmental epidemiology or related quantitative health research; strong skills in statistical modeling and programming; and proficiency with R, Python, and QGIS. The post requires excellent scientific English, knowledge of cancerology, experience in spatial data processing and/or remote sensing, and strong organizational and communication skills.
How to apply: Send your application by email to [email protected]. The application must include a CV, cover letter (maximum two pages), list of publications, recommendation letter(s), and contact details of previous supervisors. Applications are reviewed after the closing date, and shortlisted candidates are contacted for interview within 2–3 weeks.
Deadline: 31 August 2026.
