The project focuses on AI-based methodologies for Earthquake Early Warning, with an emphasis on faster and more reliable warning systems for high-speed railways. The role is strongly aligned with physics, earth science, computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, and statistics, especially where these intersect with machine learning, deep learning, signal processing, and data science.

Typical tasks include developing machine learning models for automatic earthquake detection, train signal discrimination, and P-wave arrival picking; extracting features from seismic signals; designing predictive models for ground-motion parameters such as PGA/PGV; and integrating AI modules into modular architectures compatible with real-time Earthquake Early Warning systems.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in STEM (Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields), strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++, proven experience in machine learning/deep learning, and a solid background in numerical methods and data analysis. Knowledge of seismology and experience in digital signal processing are desired.

The contract duration is 24 months, with a gross salary of about €45,000 per year. Renewal may be possible depending on funding, up to a maximum of 48 months total.
