About this position
University College Cork is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Researcher / Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher in the School of Biological, Earth, and Environmental Sciences for a 30-month fixed-term, full-time appointment in Ireland.
The project focuses on developing and modifying an existing GIS-based multicriteria decision support tool to identify optimal areas for offshore windfarm development from Clew Bay to the north coast of the island of Ireland and into the northern Irish Sea. The researcher will collate relevant spatial datasets, standardise them in a GIS environment, and combine them through expert-weighted or numerical modelling. Stakeholder-driven weighting, including an Analytic Hierarchical Process or similar approach, will also form part of the work. The project further incorporates MOSAIC-generated megafaunal distribution data and aims to deliver policy-relevant outputs through liaison with government and stakeholder agencies in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
This opportunity is well suited to a researcher with strong skills in GIS and Python, and ideally some familiarity with the offshore wind sector and marine geomatics. The position is based at University College Cork, a research-intensive university with an active commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. The advertised salary is on the IUA PD1 scale for a Post-Doctoral Researcher (€47,273–€53,925 p.a.) or the IUA PD2 scale for a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher (€55,339–€60,250 p.a.), with placement depending on appointment level and public sector pay policy.
