About this position

The University of Bonn is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral fellow (m/f/d) in metabolic and nutritional regulation of immunity and a PhD position in the lab of Prof. Christoph Wilhelm (Professor of Immunopathology, University of Bonn, Germany).

The project focuses on dietary and metabolic regulation of immune responses, including how fasting and different diets (for example, high-fat and ketogenic diets) affect the immune system. The research aims to understand how metabolites shape the biology and metabolism of tissue-resident immune cells such as T cells and innate lymphoid cells (ILC) in health and disease.

The work is connected to recent lab publications and has translational relevance for conditions such as obesity, chronic inflammation, and infections. The postdoctoral project offers the opportunity to build on established collaborations and potentially obtain additional external funding while developing an independent research program.

Applicants should have a PhD or be graduate students expected to receive the degree within six months. A background in immunology, tissue biology, or cellular metabolism is preferred. Experience with animal models, cell isolation from tissues (lung, intestine), human tissue samples, multi-parameter flow cytometry, molecular biology, and fluorescence imaging is desirable.

The postdoctoral position is available for an initial period of three years with the possibility of extension. Salary is according to the German public pay scale TV-L EG 13 (100%). The post also highlights a supportive, interdisciplinary research environment and family-friendly working conditions at the University of Bonn.

To apply, send a cover letter, CV, and the names and addresses of three referees by email to Prof. Christoph Wilhelm before 2026-04-15.
