About this position
Coming soon: 1 Postdoc + 2 PhD positions in the new TransMoP research team at the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO).
The project examines how land degradation, climate change, and related environmental factors shape migration and immobility in rural Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The research combines Earth observation, remote sensing, household surveys, quantitative analysis, and qualitative research to understand how environmental change influences mobility decisions and aspirations.
Open profiles expected:
• Postdoc — remote sensing, land degradation, environmental change
• PhD — quantitative analysis of environmental change, migration, and immobility
• PhD — migration aspirations and capabilities, perceptions, and qualitative research
All positions will be based at IAMO in Halle (Saale), Germany, with research activities in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The postdoc is expected to start in early 2027, and the two PhD positions around mid-2027.
The project is funded by the Leibniz Association. Formal advertisements will follow later. Interested candidates are invited to send a short note stating which position they are interested in, together with a CV, and wait for the official call.
