About this position

The Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Vienna (IQOQI-Vienna), part of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, is advertising a full-time postdoc position in the Quantum Foundations and Quantum Information Theory research group led by Prof. Caslav Brukner.

The group works at the interface of quantum foundations, quantum information theory, causality, and gravitational physics, with a strong emphasis on operational and information-theoretic approaches. The successful candidate will contribute to theoretical research in these areas and support the group through project proposal preparation and occasional administrative duties, including student supervision.

This opportunity is aimed at highly motivated and well-qualified researchers with a PhD in quantum physics or a closely related area. The announcement particularly values experience in quantum foundations, quantum information, gravitational physics, supervising students, and writing project proposals. The role is full-time (40 hours/week) and temporary.

The position is based in Vienna, Austria, at an internationally active research environment within the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The annual gross salary is EUR 70,167.44 for full-time employment, with pro rata adjustment for part-time arrangements in line with the collective agreement.

Applicants should submit a detailed CV with publication list, a short research statement, a PhD certificate, and the contact details of at least two referees. Applications are accepted through the online application portal linked in the announcement. The deadline is 25 August 2026 at 23:55 (Europe/Brussels).
