About this position
Umeå University is advertising a 3-year postdoctoral position focused on the development of adaptive interventions to promote lifelong learning. The project sits at the intersection of computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, neuroscience, and public health, with a strong emphasis on human-centered AI and data-driven modeling of health and brain-related outcomes.
The postdoc will be based at the Department of Computing Science at Umeå University and work closely with the Department of Statistics and Umeå Center for Functional Brain Imaging (UFBI). The research is part of the university initiative “Learning and Brain Plasticity throughout the Lifespan”, a multidisciplinary network involving researchers from several faculties. The project aims to use existing longitudinal cohort and intervention datasets to predict which individuals benefit from which interventions, and to develop dynamic, adaptive models that can inform future individualized interventions.
Research topics include predictive modeling, longitudinal data analysis, health outcome prediction, adaptive and individualized interventions, brain plasticity, and AI-based decision support. The postdoc will contribute to new models and estimation tools and help shape ongoing and future interventions related to healthy aging and lifelong learning.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in AI or a related field such as biostatistics, computational cognitive neuroscience, computer science, or epidemiology; strong publication record; excellent English; and a research plan describing fit with the project. Preferred experience includes machine learning, neurosymbolic programming, multi-agent systems, software development, computational neuroscience, probabilistic programming, or (bio)statistical analysis.
Funding and terms: this is a full-time salaried postdoctoral employment for three years. The postdoc may teach up to 20% of full time if agreed. The position starts on 1 September 2026 or by agreement.
Application deadline: 30 April 2026.
Applicants should submit the required documents through Umeå University’s electronic recruitment system. Contact persons listed in the post are Helena Lindgren, Maria Josefsson, and Carl-Johan Boraxbekk.
