About this position
Postdoc in bovine TB modelling at University College Dublin (BTB-MOSAIC)
This postdoctoral opportunity is based at University College Dublin and sits within the BTB-MOSAIC project, a joint all-island initiative focused on bovine tuberculosis control in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The work combines infectious disease epidemiology, statistics, applied mathematics, quantitative ecology, and veterinary science, with a strong emphasis on transmission modelling and policy-relevant analysis.
The successful candidate will adapt a within-herd Mycobacterium bovis transmission model for both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, simulate and compare control interventions, and build an open-source R package for the modelling community. The role also includes publishing papers and policy reports and supporting PhD students.
Candidate requirements include a PhD in a relevant area, strong statistical and/or transmission modelling skills, programming ability in R, C++ or similar, familiarity with veterinary medicine, farming or ecology, and experience working in an interdisciplinary team. The position is open to international applicants and is work-permit eligible.
The appointment is for 3 years with a possibility of extension, and two levels are available depending on experience: Level 1 for early-career researchers or those moving into a new field, and Level 2 for researchers with 2–3 years of postdoctoral experience. The closing date is 11 November 2026. Apply via the UCD jobs portal using reference 020155.
