The new research group Energy Transition and Climate Futures, led by Prof. Falko Ueckerdt, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work at the intersection of computational modelling, energy systems, industry transformation, and policy-relevant climate research. The group collaborates closely with leading partners including the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Technical University of Berlin, and Fraunhofer ISI, with additional international links to institutions such as the University of Oxford, Monash University, and Tsinghua University.
Research themes include the energy transition, deep electrification, hydrogen, climate-friendly materials such as steel and chemicals, and the circular economy. The role involves collaborative code development for numerical simulation and optimization models, publishing high-impact papers, supervising PhD and MA students, presenting at international conferences, contributing to teaching, supporting third-party funding applications, and communicating research to industry and policy stakeholders.
Eligibility highlights: a completed PhD in a relevant discipline; strong programming experience (Python or R preferred); experience with computational modelling/simulation or research software development; Git-based collaborative coding experience; strong analytical skills; and excellent English communication skills (C1). Preferred experience includes energy systems analysis, scenario modelling, material flow analysis, integrated assessment modelling, or technical ownership of a model.
Funding and conditions: full-time appointment for up to 4 years, on-site in Linz, with a competitive gross salary starting from €67,000 per year.
