About this position
TU Delft is advertising a Postdoc in Computer Vision and Smart Sensing for Sustainable Aluminium Recycling within the Engineering Structures Department and the Resources & Recycling group. The project is part of Horizon Europe CLEANMAT (Smart Clean Aluminium Material Processing), a multi-partner European initiative focused on low-emission, end-to-end processing of challenging scrap streams into high-performance aluminium alloys.
The research combines computer vision, smart sensing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, and sensor fusion to characterise and classify aluminium scraps and contaminants. The postdoc will develop models for scrap classification, design algorithms for multi-sensor data interpretation, conduct laboratory experiments on scrap sorting, and collaborate with TU Delft researchers and CLEANMAT consortium partners across Europe.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD in Civil, Mechanical, Automation/Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics/Mechanics, Computer Science, or a related field; experience in AI/computer vision, machine learning, sensor technologies, or mechanical/electrical device integration; strong data analysis, image processing, and programming skills (Python/C++); publication experience; and fluent English.
The appointment is temporary for 2 years, with a workload of 36–40 hours per week. Salary and benefits follow the Dutch university collective agreement, with a salary range of €3546–€5538. Additional benefits include pension, flexible working, training opportunities, leave hours, and partially paid parental leave.
Deadline: 3 November 2026. Location: Delft, Netherlands.
To apply, submit the required documents online through the application button: CV, motivation letter with a proposal for your approach and fit, MSc and PhD degree documents, a 300-word abstract of your MSc and PhD thesis, publication list, and two selected publications. If shortlisted, you will also need to provide contact details for at least two references.
