About this position

Postdoc in Cosmochemistry at StarPlan, Globe Institute, University of Copenhagen

This is a three-year postdoctoral opening in the Centre for Star and Planet Formation (StarPlan) at the Globe Institute, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The project focuses on the cosmochemistry of carbonaceous chondrites and the evolution of the outer protoplanetary disk, using high-precision isotope systematics to study mixing, late infall, ice processing, and transport of inner-disk material during planet formation.

The successful candidate will work in an international, multidisciplinary environment spanning cosmochemistry, geochemistry, planetary science, astronomy, astrophysics, and geochemistry. The group has established clean-laboratory and high-precision mass spectrometry facilities, including in-house analytical protocols for Mg, Si, and Fe isotopes. Research tasks include isotope measurements of ungrouped and anomalous carbonaceous chondrites, petrographic characterization of chondrules/rims/refractory inclusions/matrix, and integration of bulk isotope data with mixing models.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in cosmochemistry, geochemistry, meteoritics, planetary science, Earth sciences, or a closely related field; experience with high-precision isotope analysis and clean-lab chemistry and/or quantitative petrography; familiarity with MC-ICP-MS or TIMS and isotope data reduction; strong analytical skills; excellent English communication. Desirable experience includes carbonaceous chondrites, sample-return materials (Ryugu, Bennu), SEM/EPMA/nanoSIMS/FIB, and isotope mixing or disk-evolution models.

Funding/terms: fixed-term academic employment under Danish university salary and appointment agreements. A salary supplement may be negotiated. No stipend amount is listed.
