About this position
Postdoc opportunity at DTU Offshore, Technical University of Denmark, in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. The project focuses on critical raw material recovery from high-salinity brines, with an initial emphasis on produced water from offshore oil and gas production. The successful candidate will join an international research environment and work with DTU colleagues and industrial partners on experimental investigations, chemical analysis, thermodynamic modelling, and process engineering.
The research aims to develop efficient and environmentally sustainable methods for recovering valuable elements such as lithium, magnesium, boron, silicon, and rubidium from complex aqueous streams. The work includes studying chemical separation and precipitation processes, evaluating performance through laboratory experiments and modelling, and contributing to integrated workflows for process optimisation and technological scale-up.
Academic background and skills: applicants must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). Preferred experience includes aqueous chemical systems, high-salinity brines, produced water, industrial wastewater, chemical separation, precipitation, mineral formation, water treatment, resource recovery, analytical techniques (ICP-OES, ion chromatography, XRD, SEM), thermodynamic or chemical process modelling (e.g. PHREEQC), Python or other programming/data analysis skills, and process engineering. Strong English communication skills and the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams are required.
Funding and terms: this is a paid full-time postdoctoral position for 2 years. Salary follows the Danish collective agreement, with possible supplements according to DTU's salary structure.
Application deadline: 9 November 2026 at 23:59 Danish time. Apply online by opening the application portal, completing the form, and uploading one PDF in English containing the cover letter, CV, diplomas and transcripts, publication list, and three references.

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). The post seeks candidates with experience in laboratory investigations of aqueous chemical systems, preferably high-salinity brines, produced water, industrial wastewater or related process streams; knowledge of chemical separation processes such as precipitation, mineral formation, water treatment or resource recovery; experience with analytical and characterisation techniques such as ICP-OES, ion chromatography, XRD, SEM or comparable methods; experience with thermodynamic or chemical process modelling, preferably PHREEQC or equivalent; skills in data analysis, numerical modelling or programming such as Python; understanding of process engineering and optimisation of treatment processes; interest in environmental assessment, resource efficiency and sustainable technologies; excellent written and verbal English; and ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. Experience with process design, experimental validation, environmental impact assessment or pilot-scale development is an advantage.
How to apply
Submit the complete online application no later than the deadline. Open the Apply now link, fill out the form, and attach one PDF in English containing the cover letter, CV, academic diplomas and transcripts, publication list, and names and addresses of three references.
