About this position

The University of Reading will coordinate SOILBIOMASS+, a new Horizon Europe Mission Soil project starting on 1 September 2026. The project addresses an important sustainability question: can Europe produce biomass sustainably while restoring soil health?

The project brings together a large European consortium including EIT Food, ILVO, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, the University of Bonn, OpenGeoHub Foundation, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, the National Forest Centre (Slovakia), the European Landowners' Organization, EUBIA, Inagro, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, MVARC, Food4Sustainability CoLAB, Green Restoration Ireland, ETA Florence Renewable Energies, and IDConsortium.

At Reading, a postdoc position will soon open at the intersection of data science, AI, and land-use modelling, with opportunities for collaboration with OpenGeoHub. The project will combine living labs, field data, Earth observation, AI, and land-use modelling to support more sustainable biomass systems across Europe.

This opportunity is especially relevant for researchers interested in environmental science, computer science, agriculture, Earth science, and related quantitative approaches to sustainability, soil health, and biomass systems. The post does not yet provide formal eligibility criteria, funding details, or an application deadline, so interested candidates should watch for the official vacancy announcement from the University of Reading.
