About this position
Postdoc position in detecting cognitive strategies in EEG data at the University of Groningen, Faculty of Science and Engineering, in collaboration with Utrecht University.
This project focuses on EEG, cognitive strategies, computational cognitive neuroscience, and machine learning. The goal is to detect cognitive operations in single-trial EEG data using the HMP method, label those operations, and train transformer models to predict sequences of cognitive events in unseen data. The work aims to compare strategy use between novices and experts and map learning trajectories.
You will work with the research group of Jelmer Borst at the University of Groningen and collaborate with Leendert van Maanen at Utrecht University. The position is officially appointed at the University of Groningen and based in the Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computing Science and Artificial Intelligence.
Eligibility highlights: interest in human cognition; experience with neural data, especially EEG or MEG; experience with machine learning for classification or decoding of neural data; strong programming skills, especially Python.
Funding and contract: paid postdoc role with a gross monthly salary of €4,251–€4,599 for full-time employment, under the Dutch university collective labor agreement. The appointment is 0.8–1.0 FTE, with an intended duration of 2 years. The initial contract is for 1 year with a possible 1-year extension. Holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus are included.
