Postdoc opportunity in Distributed Spaceborne Radar Systems at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)

This vacancy is for a 2-year postdoctoral researcher position in the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft, working within the Section of Space Systems Engineering (SSE). The project is part of NL-RIA 2.0, the Dutch network on small spaceborne radar instruments and applications, funded by the Netherlands Space Agency (NLSA).

The research focuses on spaceborne radar systems, including distributed SAR and a near-nadir looking interferometric imager. The postdoc will help derive user requirements, evaluate fractionated space systems for radar applications, and develop system requirements and system concepts for miniaturized radar missions and low-cost distributed space systems.

In addition to technical research, the role includes supporting the NL-RIA 2.0 network through market surveys, technology/application inventories, proposal preparation, internal and external coordination meetings, and international workshops.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in engineering (aerospace engineering, electronics, or related fields), have proven experience in space mission design and space systems engineering, ideally with distributed space systems such as formation flying or in-orbit assembly, and have basic knowledge of Earth observation or radar technologies. Project management experience across multiple entities is preferred.

Funding and conditions: the position is a paid postdoc appointment with salary and benefits according to the Dutch collective labour agreement. The contract duration is 2 years, with 36–40 hours per week.
