About this position
This postdoc position at Eindhoven University of Technology focuses on dynamic modelling of alkaline water electrolyzers for green hydrogen production. The project sits within a large European collaborative initiative aimed at accelerating renewable hydrogen and sustainable fuel production through advanced simulation models and sector-coupling applications.
The successful candidate will develop a coupled dynamic model of an alkaline water electrolyzer capable of predicting key performance indicators such as cell potential, gas purity, Faradaic efficiency, and degradation behaviour. A key part of the work is validation against experimental data and integration into larger system-level simulation frameworks within the consortium. The role combines modelling with experimental collaboration and requires close interaction with project partners across Europe.
The position is embedded in the Applied Electrochemistry Laboratory within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. The group is internationally recognized for research on electrochemical technologies for the energy transition, with a strong focus on alkaline water electrolysis. Their work addresses efficiency, operational flexibility, and long-term durability of electrolyzers, combining fundamental understanding with applied research and industrial collaboration.
The postdoc will also supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students performing laboratory experiments that support model validation. In addition, the role includes collaboration with academic and industry partners, and contributions to scientific publications and conference presentations.
Requirements include a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline, experience in mathematical modelling and simulation, laboratory experience, interest in electrochemistry and electrochemical engineering, strong research output, project management skills, and excellent English communication. Experience with electrochemical system modelling is advantageous.
Employment conditions include full-time appointment for 2.5 years, salary according to Dutch university scale 10, a year-end bonus, vacation pay, training opportunities, and several benefits such as support for international staff and commuting or home-working allowances.
Application deadline: 2026-08-20. Apply online with a cover letter, CV, publication list, references, and up to five best publications. Applications sent by email or post will not be processed.
