Postdoc in Economics of Science and Innovation Copenhagen Business School in Denmark

Copenhagen Business School is offering a two-year postdoc position in Economics of Science and Innovation within the Department of Strategy and Innovation. The position is part of the research project “The Villum Experiment: Risk, Novelty, and Scientific Trajectories”, led by Professor H.C. Kongsted and funded by Villum Fonden. The project is situated at the intersection of economics of science, innovation studies, and empirical research on research and knowledge production.

The project investigates atypical knowledge recombination, conceptual distance, topic novelty, and uncertainty using state-of-the-art citation-based and text-based measures. It relies heavily on econometric analysis of large-scale microdata for researchers in Denmark, including Danish registry data linked to publications and research funding activity. The successful candidate will play a central role in collecting, preparing, and analysing data and will help support the project’s research output.

The ideal candidate is a recent PhD graduate with a strong interest in the economics of science. Advanced econometric skills are essential, and experience with natural language processing (NLP) and text-based methods is highly desirable. The postdoc may join as a co-author on project work packages or develop ideas within the scope of the project. Up to 20% of working time may be used for the candidate’s own research pipeline, and there is no teaching obligation.

The position is embedded in the Kongsted-Tartari group, a collaborative research team based at Copenhagen Business School and the Stockholm School of Economics with links to scholars at European universities. The Department of Strategy and Innovation has a strong research environment focused on strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international business, and values rigorous empirical methods including surveys, register data, interviews, and experiments.

Applicants must have completed a PhD in Management, Economics, or a related social science discipline by the start date, though candidates finishing within the current academic year may be considered for a later start. The department seeks candidates with a strong academic record, motivation for research, good communication and organizational skills, and willingness to relocate to Denmark. Knowledge of Stata, R, and Python is desirable.

The expected start date is 1 December 2026, or as early as possible. The application deadline is 7 October 2026. Funding is provided through the project grant, with salary arranged according to the applicable collective agreement, and travel/conference support is available. International candidates may also be eligible for Denmark’s researcher tax scheme, subject to eligibility requirements.
