About this position
The Social Brain Lab at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience in Amsterdam is recruiting a 3-year postdoctoral researcher for a project on functional ultrasound imaging of rodent harm-aversion and social neuroscience.
This position is part of a new NWO Vici project, “Empathy, helping and aggression: unravelling the missing neural link,” and focuses on understanding how the brain transforms another individual’s distress into the decision not to harm. The postdoc will lead the rodent work package and investigate the neural basis of harm-aversion and aggression in mice.
The research combines mouse social decision-making tasks, including harm-aversion and matched self-fear conditions, with functional ultrasound imaging (fUSI), head-fixed behaviour, autonomic physiology, computational modelling, and pathway-selective chemogenetics. The project is strongly oriented toward circuit neuroscience, brain imaging, rodent behaviour, and the mechanisms underlying pathological aggression.
Applicants should have a PhD in neuroscience or a related field, strong experience with ultrasound imaging and in vivo rodent work, and enthusiasm for social behaviour, brain imaging, circuit neuroscience, and quantitative analysis.
The position is based at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is a full-time postdoctoral role with a 3-year duration and a planned start date in fall 2026. The deadline is 15 August 2026.
Interested candidates should apply through the vacancy page linked in the post and submit their application before the deadline.
