About this position
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position in heterogeneity engineering of bcc-structured refractory alloys, based in the Division of Materials and Manufacture, Department of Mechanical Engineering. The research team is internationally oriented and focuses on innovative materials, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable solutions with strong industry ties. The project aims to design bcc-structured refractory alloys that are both strong and workable for extreme conditions, using heterogeneity engineering to introduce controlled variations in structure and composition. This approach enhances ductility at room temperature while maintaining high strength at elevated temperatures.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or an equivalent foreign degree, completed by the time of employment decision. Experience in improving room-temperature ductility of bcc-structured refractory alloys is mandatory. Teaching experience and demonstrated research potential are expected. It is highly meritorious if the doctoral degree was obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline. Experience in heterogeneous structured materials for improved strength and ductility is advantageous. The position requires physical presence in Sweden throughout the employment period, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
The postdoc will plan, perform, and disseminate research in collaborative environments, supervise master’s and/or PhD students, and may engage in teaching at undergraduate/master’s level. The position is a full-time employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension, and includes all employee benefits as per Chalmers University of Technology regulations. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, with generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. Swedish courses are available for non-native speakers. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, with initiatives such as the GENIE Initiative for gender equality and excellence.
To apply, submit your application via the online application form by 29 May 2026. Attach your CV, publication list, teaching experience, and a personal letter outlining your research fields, outcomes, and future goals. Applications must be complete and written in English. Contact details for references will be requested after the interview. For questions, contact Professor Sheng Guo at [email protected]. Incomplete applications and those sent by email will not be considered.
