About this position

The Yan Group at the Department of Chemistry, University of North Texas is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on high-pressure chemistry of inorganic and organometallic compounds.

The position is co-advised by Dr. Hao Yan and Dr. Shengqian Ma and sits at the intersection of high-pressure science, chemistry, and materials science. Research topics include high-pressure mechanochemistry in inorganic systems, high-pressure optoelectronic properties and phase transitions of porous materials, and high-pressure materials synthesis.

The Yan lab highlights extensive experimental infrastructure, including diamond anvil cells, hydrostatic pressure cells, a DAC-compatible microscope cryostat, Paris-Edinburgh press, a 400-MPa reactor, Raman/PL/UV-Vis spectroscopy, glove box, Schlenk line, and access to shared UNT facilities such as X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, NMR, and HPC resources. Synchrotron techniques are also used frequently.

Eligibility: Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related field; strong background in synthesis and spectroscopy (Raman, X-ray absorption, UV-Vis, IR) of inorganic/organometallic compounds; computational modeling and high-pressure experience are desirable; strong communication skills are required.

Appointment: one year, renewable for another year by mutual agreement. Expected start date is Dec. 2026 – Jan. 2027.

How to apply: Email your CV and recent publications to [email protected].
