About this position
Postdoc opportunity in Law, Privacy, and Privacy-Enhancing Technologies at Radboud University (Netherlands)
This postdoctoral position is part of the REAL-PETS project, a European research collaboration focused on online tracking, privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), and the legal frameworks that govern them. The role sits at the intersection of law, data protection, and computer science, with a strong emphasis on the GDPR and related EU digital regulation.
The successful candidate will analyse the legal landscape around privacy and online tracking, apply the GDPR and related rules to newly discovered tracking techniques, and assess the legal requirements for PETs developed in the project. The work involves close collaboration with computer scientists who detect tracking techniques and build privacy-enhancing solutions.
You will be supervised by Professor Frederik Zuiderveen Borgesius and Assistant Professor Christine Utz at Radboud University, working within the Digital Security (DiS) group at the Institute for Computing and Information Sciences (iCIS) and the interdisciplinary iHub research hub on digitalisation and society.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in law and technology, data protection law, or a related legal field (or near completion); strong interest in privacy and data protection; expertise in GDPR; ideally familiarity with the DSA, DMA, and ePrivacy Directive; good English communication, presentation, and writing skills; interdisciplinary experience is a plus. Dutch is not required.
Funding and terms: 2-year temporary employment, 1.0 FTE, gross monthly salary €3,706–€5,760, plus holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, and generous leave options.
Deadline: 7 November 2026. Interviews are planned for 18 November and 1 December, with a preferred start date of 1 March 2027.
