About this position

DTU Physics is advertising a postdoc position in live electron microscopy in catalysis at the atomic scale in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. The project is centered in the VISION center at the Technical University of Denmark, where researchers use state-of-the-art operando, atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to study catalysts in action.

The research environment is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, bringing together electron microscopy, spectroscopy, microfabricated reactors, catalysis, cluster science, and computational modelling. The postdoc will investigate dynamic restructuring of catalytic nanomaterials, gas-surface interactions, molecular adsorption, active-site formation, nanoparticle dynamics, and quantitative links between 3D atomic structure and catalytic function.

Possible tasks include operando low-dose-rate TEM, ultrasensitive imaging and spectroscopy, fabrication and use of microfabricated reactors, analysis of time-resolved TEM datasets, and development of Python-based image/data analysis tools. The role is aimed at ambitious researchers who want to contribute to high-impact publications and shape new research directions in a frontier research environment.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent. Preferred backgrounds include physics, chemistry, or materials science. Candidates should have documented atomic-resolution TEM experience, plus experience in one or more of microfabricated devices, 2D materials, catalysis, or surface science. Strong scientific programming skills and excellent English communication are expected.

Funding and terms: this is a full-time 2-year postdoc appointment. Salary and employment conditions follow the Danish collective agreement, with possible supplements under DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff.
