Postdoc in Mathematics with Focus on Educational Science Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg is offering a fully funded postdoctoral position in mathematics with a focus on educational science. The department is the largest mathematics department in Sweden, hosting an international and diverse academic environment with frequent collaborations and exchanges. The postdoc will join a dynamic team dedicated to practice-based school research in mathematics education, contributing to the national ULF initiative aimed at strengthening the Swedish school system and teacher education through collaborative research.

The research project centers on deepening collaboration between researchers and teachers in the Gothenburg area, with the goal of identifying challenges in mathematics teaching, formulating research questions, and conducting projects in partnership with schools. The thematic focus of the research will be developed in dialogue with teachers and based on the needs and interests of participating schools. Previous projects have explored test-based learning, vertical surfaces, and student-generated clues for problem-solving. The postdoc will initiate, plan, and carry out practice-based research projects, supervise master’s students, and may engage in teaching at the undergraduate or master’s level.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or learning in mathematics by the time of employment decision. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Additional qualifications such as a teaching degree, teaching experience, experience with practice-based research, proficiency in Swedish, a strong mathematics background, and expertise in quantitative methods and learning analytics are considered meritorious. The position requires physical presence in Gothenburg throughout the employment, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.

The postdoc appointment is for two years and is fully funded, including full employee benefits at Chalmers.
