About this position
Postdoctoral position at the University of Luxembourg within the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) and its Metabolomics, Lipidomics and Proteomics Platform. The role is a service-oriented core facility postdoc focused on chromatography-mass spectrometry-based analytical services for internal and external clients.
The successful candidate will work across LC-MS, IC-MS and GC-MS workflows, supporting targeted and untargeted metabolomics/lipidomics studies, high-throughput sample measurement, method development, quality control, reporting, and client interaction. The work is strongly oriented toward platform development, robust data generation, and reproducible analytical service delivery rather than an independent research programme.
Core responsibilities include experimental design support, sample preparation across multiple biological matrices, extraction method development and validation, operation and troubleshooting of analytical instruments, SOP implementation, data analysis, structured reporting, and documentation. The postholder will also contribute to the supervision and training of junior staff and students, and may support grant applications and manuscript preparation with platform users.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related field; strong analytical chemistry background; proven metabolomics experience; solid computational/statistical data analysis skills; familiarity with biological sample handling, including potentially infectious material; and excellent English. Experience in lipidomics, proteomics, and with Compound Discoverer is advantageous.
Institution and environment: the University of Luxembourg is a multilingual, international research university. The LCSB is a highly interdisciplinary centre with a strong systems biology and biomedicine focus, especially on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The position is based at the Belval Campus in Luxembourg.
Funding and contract: fixed-term contract for 24 months, full-time (40 hours/week), with a yearly gross salary of EUR 87,306 for postdoctoral researchers at the University of Luxembourg.

Strong theoretical and practical expertise in analytical chemistry with a focus on chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS, IC-MS, GC-MS). Demonstrated hands-on experience in metabolomics, including method development, optimisation and execution of large-scale studies. Experience with sample preparation from multiple biological matrices, including potentially infectious material such as blood, urine, stool, tissues, cells, bacteria and yeast. Solid experience with computational metabolomics data analysis tools and very good understanding of statistical methods for metabolomics data. Good knowledge of metabolism and previous experience in life-science-related research; experience in lipidomics is a strong plus. Experience with Compound Discoverer is an advantage. Prior experience in proteomics is an asset but not a prerequisite. Excellent command of English at C1 level is mandatory; good working knowledge of French or German at B1 level is an asset. Strong service orientation, excellent organisational skills, reliability, attention to detail, ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are expected.
