About this position

TU Delft is recruiting a Postdoc for the MENTOR project: Multi-fidelity Engine Integration Optimization for Next Generation Aircraft. The role focuses on advanced aerospace engineering, especially aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and multidisciplinary optimization for future aircraft design.

You will develop a multi-fidelity computational framework to improve engine-airframe integration, aerodynamic efficiency, and noise performance. The research combines high-fidelity simulations, fast aerodynamic prediction methods, and aeroacoustic models. Specific technical areas include adjoint-based optimization with URANS simulations, BEM theory, vortex lattice methods, and flow distortion theory for tonal and broadband noise prediction.

The project is part of the Dutch Aviation Systems Analysis Lab (DASAL), a collaboration between TU Delft and the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR), funded through the Dutch National Growth Fund’s Luchtvaart in Transitie programme. The work is based in the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology, within the Department of Flow Physics and Technology, in an interdisciplinary environment with PhD candidates, postdocs, and academic staff.

Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Strong experience in aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, CFD, numerical simulation, and aerodynamic design tools is expected. CAD modelling experience is required, along with an interest in propulsion integration and computational prediction tools. English proficiency is needed; Dutch is helpful but not mandatory.

Funding and conditions: this is a 3-year temporary postdoctoral appointment, 36–40 hours per week, with a salary range of €3706–€5760 and standard Dutch employment benefits.

Deadline: apply online by 29 October 2026. Submit a CV and motivational letter, and optionally up to three supporting documents or links showing relevant experience. Applications must be submitted through the online portal; email and postal applications will not be processed.

What's required

Applicants must hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Required background includes aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), numerical simulations, computational methods for aerodynamic analysis, and familiarity with CAD modelling software for aerodynamic design. Candidates should be interested in multidisciplinary optimization, propulsion integration, and computational prediction tools, work independently, solve complex research problems analytically, communicate effectively in English, and collaborate across disciplines. Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage but not required.

How to apply

Apply online via the application button no later than 29 October 2026. Upload a CV, motivational letter, and optionally up to three documents or links demonstrating relevant experience. Address the application to Daniele Ragni; applications sent by email or post will not be processed.
