About this position
Postdoctoral position at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Netherlands, focused on natural fiber composites, recyclable resins, vitrimer polyester resins, polymer processing, and circular materials for aerospace applications.
The project is part of the COMPOCYCLE consortium, funded by the TopSectorEnergy program with industrial, research, and academic partners. The research aims to develop 100% biobased thermosetting fibre composites that are recyclable and deployable. The work includes composite processing, curing behaviour, impregnation, chemical and physical ageing, recycling and reprocessing, microstructure analysis, and linking processing parameters to mechanical performance and circularity.
You will work in the Aerospace Structures and Materials department labs, including the Delft TapeLab, polymer processing labs, and advanced characterization facilities, in close collaboration with academic and industrial partners.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD is required; strong background in composite/processing engineering, chemical engineering, or polymer technology and processing is expected. Experience with experimental research on natural-fibre or thermoset/thermoplastic composites, dynamic polymers/vitrimers, curing, rheology, chemical recycling, degradation mechanisms, or microscopy/DSC/DMA/FTIR is highly desirable. Excellent English, scientific writing, oral communication, independence, and teamwork are emphasized.
Funding and conditions: 2-year temporary contract, 38–40 hours per week, with salary and benefits under the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement. TU Delft mentions pension, flexible working, training opportunities, leave hours, and partially paid parental leave.
Deadline: 1 November 2026. Apply online through AcademicTransfer; upload a CV and motivational letter, and be prepared to provide three references later.

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD and have significant knowledge of composite/processing engineering, chemical engineering, and polymer technology and processing. Experience with experimental research is required, preferably in natural-fibre or thermoset/thermoplastic composites, vitrimer or other dynamic polymer chemistries, curing, and rheological characterisation. Knowledge of chemical recycling, resin degradation mechanisms, or microstructural analysis (e.g. microscopy, DSC, DMA, FTIR) is an advantage. Strong scientific and report writing skills, oral communication skills, curiosity, self-motivation, independence, teamwork, and excellent English are expected.
How to apply
Apply online via the AcademicTransfer application button by 1 November 2026. Upload a CV and a motivational letter, and provide three references later if requested. Do not apply by email or post.
