About this position

The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the nuclear fuel materials team in Stockholm, Sweden. The successful candidate will lead research on the thermal stability and pellet-cladding mechanical and chemical interaction of burnup simulated doped UO2 fuel (ADOPTTM SIMFUEL), with a particular focus on Cr2O3 and Al2O3 doping.

This project is supported by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and involves collaboration with Westinghouse and Chalmers University of Technology. The research will utilize both experimental and computational methods to evaluate the effects of fission products on the thermal and mechanical properties of nuclear fuel, as well as the pellet cladding mechanical and chemical interactions (PCMI and PCCI).

The position is full-time, for up to two years, and offers a monthly salary. Applicants must have a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering Mechanics, or a closely related field, with the degree completed by the time of employment. Preferred candidates will have obtained their PhD within the last three years and possess hands-on experience in laboratory work related to sintering, powder metallurgy, and characterization techniques, as well as expertise in mesoscale and multiphysics finite element modelling. Strong communication skills, teamwork, independence, motivation, and dedication to research are essential, and teaching experience is an advantage.

The position may require security clearance under Swedish law. KTH offers a dynamic and creative research environment, with a commitment to equality, diversity, and attractive working conditions. Applications must be submitted through KTH's recruitment system and include a CV, diplomas and grades, translations if necessary, a brief research statement, and contact details for 2-3 references.

The deadline for applications is November 26, 2025.
