About this position

Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the Grommet Research Group, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, focusing on photochemical reactivity under confinement. This research project aims to explore how photochemical reactions differ in solution versus within spatially confined environments, such as coordination cages, with a particular emphasis on synthesizing pharmaceutical building blocks containing four-membered heterocycles. The group specializes in supramolecular chemistry and is dedicated to advancing the understanding of chemical reactivity and selectivity under confinement.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary team committed to both scientific excellence and personal development. The Grommet Research Group values collaboration, societal impact, and work-life balance, providing a supportive environment for postdoctoral researchers. The position offers opportunities for independent research, collaboration within the group and its wider network, and the supervision of master's and/or PhD students.

Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in chemistry (or equivalent), awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline, with exceptions for documented circumstances such as parental or sick leave. Desirable qualifications include experience in supramolecular chemistry, organic synthesis, and/or host-guest chemistry. Strong communication skills and an interest in interdisciplinary research are essential, as is proficiency in written and spoken English. The position requires physical presence in Gothenburg for the full two-year contract, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.

This is a fully funded, full-time postdoctoral position for two years, with full employee benefits as per Chalmers University of Technology policies. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment, generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender equality and offers Swedish language courses for non-native speakers.

To apply, prepare your application in English, including a comprehensive CV (with publication list and teaching experience) and a personal letter outlining your research background and future goals. Submit your application via the Chalmers careers portal; incomplete applications and those sent by email will not be considered. The application deadline is 8 March 2026. For further information, contact Assistant Professor Angela Grommet at [email protected].
