About this position

DTU Chemical Engineering is advertising a postdoc in pyrolysis and biochar research at the CHEC Research Centre in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. The project focuses on chemical engineering, biomass pyrolysis, thermal conversion, biochar, and the characterization of pyrolysis products from biomass and waste-derived feedstocks.

You will conduct experimental research using laboratory-scale pyrolysis equipment, work with agricultural residues, digestate fibres, sewage sludge, and other feedstocks, and investigate how feedstock properties and process conditions affect biochar quality and carbon stability. The role includes independent research, publication, project responsibility, collaboration with academic and industrial partners, and supervision of MSc students.

Required qualifications include a PhD degree (or equivalent) in chemical engineering or a related field, strong experimental research skills, the ability to work independently, and strong English communication skills. Experience with thermal conversion processes and analytical methods such as ash analysis, TGA, BET/surface area analysis, SEM-EDX, carbon stability assessment, and interpretation of PAHs, PFAS, and heavy metals is an advantage.

This is a full-time, two-year postdoc running from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2028. Salary follows the Danish collective agreement, with possible supplements according to DTU’s salary structure. What's required
