About this position
Aarhus University’s Department of Computer Science is advertising a 24-month postdoctoral research position in Explainable AI (XAI) for the REMAX project: Rigorous Evaluation Methods for AI Explainability.
The project sits at the intersection of computer science and philosophy, and is carried out in collaboration with the Centre for Science Studies at Aarhus University. The research aims to develop new normative criteria for AI explainability, create novel metrics and algorithms for XAI, and build a feedback loop between philosophical evaluation and computational methods.
The postdoc will be based in the Data-Intensive Systems research group and work under the guidance of Professor Ira Assent, with collaboration from Associate Professor Rune Nyrup in Science Studies. The position is especially relevant for candidates with expertise in AI models, algorithms, machine learning, data mining, and explainability methods.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold or expect to complete a relevant PhD degree and should have documented experience in devising and analyzing AI models, preferably with XAI, plus publications in strong machine learning/data mining venues.
Funding and terms: the role is a fixed-term full-time postdoc funded by a Villum Synergy grant. Salary and employment conditions follow Danish university collective agreements.
Location: Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University, Åbogade 34, Aarhus, Denmark.
Deadline: 30 September 2026 at 23:59 CEST.
How to apply: submit the application in English via Aarhus University’s recruitment system using the APPLY link. Include the CV, degree certificate, publication list, research plan, teaching information, recommendation letters, and motivation letter.
