About this position

Applications are invited for a postdoc in statistical genetics at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG), Aarhus University, Denmark. The project is led by Professor Doug Speed and is part of an ERC-funded research programme on developing new statistical methods for the classification of complex diseases.

The postdoc will work on method development in human statistical genetics, with a focus on identifying more informative disease subtypes than those currently defined by clinical observation alone. The research aims to improve prognosis and treatment by using genetic data and related traits, including SNPs, metabolites, biomarkers, and other heritable phenotypes. There is also scope to contribute to more standard GWAS tools, such as association analysis, polygenic scores, and studies of genetic architecture.

Ideal candidates should have a strong quantitative background and be able to understand and develop statistical methods, not just apply software. A BSc and/or PhD with a substantial statistical component is expected, and experience in mathematics, statistical genetics, or bioinformatics is especially relevant. Coding experience in R, Stata, Matlab, C, or similar is desirable, along with familiarity with UNIX/Linux. Prior genetics experience is helpful but not required. Fluency in English is required.

The position is based at QGG, an interdisciplinary research center with expertise in quantitative genetics, genomics, population genetics, and precision medicine. The appointment is full-time and fixed-term for two years, starting 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The application deadline is 1 May 2026, 23:59 CEST.

To apply, use Aarhus University’s recruitment system on the job advertisement page and submit the required documents in English: CV, degree certificate, publication list, future research plans, research activity information, teaching portfolio, and verified teaching experience if applicable. Referee details can be provided for reference letters before the deadline.
