About this position

Postdoc opportunity at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Construct) in synthesis and characterization of rare-earth-free permanent magnetic phases.

The project is part of a close-collaboration effort across DTU departments, combining materials science and engineering, metallurgical synthesis, microstructure characterization, microscopy, diffraction, spectroscopy, and micromagnetic modeling. The goal is to develop a novel rare-earth-free permanent magnet using new processing routes, with applications relevant to wind turbines, electric motors, and green transition technologies.

The successful candidate will work on synthesis routes and microstructure optimization, collaborating with two other postdocs and supervisors at DTU Physics and DTU Energy. The role emphasizes experimental work on gas-metal interactions, phase synthesis, and characterization of magnetic materials.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD degree in materials science and engineering (or equivalent), have experience with synthesis through gas-metal interactions, microstructure characterization using electron microscopy, diffraction and spectroscopy, and a record of scientific writing and publishing. Strong independence, planning ability, and good English communication skills are required.

Employment details: full-time, 2-year postdoc position starting 1 January 2027 or by mutual agreement. Salary and terms follow the Danish collective agreement, with possible supplements according to DTU’s salary structure.

Location: Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.

Application deadline: 12 October 2026 at 23:59 Danish time.

How to apply: submit the online application via the Apply now portal and upload one PDF in English containing a cover letter, CV, academic diplomas (MSc/PhD), and list of publications.
