About this position
The Theory of Chiral Quantum Materials Group at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics is recruiting a Postdoc in Theoretical and Computational Quantum Materials.
This opportunity sits at the intersection of physics, materials science, and computational modeling, with a strong focus on chiral quantum materials, topological materials, quantum transport, and molecule-material interfaces. The project explores how chirality, magnetism, and band topology shape electronic states, spin and orbital transport, and emergent functionalities in quantum materials.
The successful candidate will work on topics such as spin and orbital textures, chirality-dependent quantum transport, interfacial charge transfer, and enantioselective molecular adsorption. Methods include first-principles electronic-structure calculations, Wannier-based modeling, symmetry analysis, quantum-transport theory, and surface/interface calculations.
The position is funded through the DFG Cluster of Excellence Center for Chiral Electronics and is available from October 1, 2026. It is a full-time appointment with an initial contract duration of 24 months and remuneration at 100% EG13 TVoeD-Bund.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field. Desired experience includes density functional theory, electronic-structure calculations, Wannier methods, Kubo or non-equilibrium Green’s-function approaches, topological or chiral quantum materials, surface/interface modeling, scientific programming, and numerical modeling. Strong candidates with electronic-structure expertise and interest in learning quantum transport or molecule-surface modeling are encouraged to apply.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but the stated deadline is August 3, 2026. To apply, submit a CV with publication list and the contact details of two referees via the application portal.
Scientific inquiries can be directed to Dr. Qun Yang at [email protected].
