About this position
Postdoctoral opportunity at TU Delft in theoretical quantum physics. The position is in the newly established theory group of Assistant Professor Julen Simón Pedernales in the Department of Quantum Nanoscience at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).
The research focuses on quantum sensing, mechanical quantum systems, quantum control, noise mitigation, and tests of fundamental physics. The successful candidate will develop analytical and numerical methods for the quantum dynamics of mechanical systems and their interactions with complex environments, with connections to quantum information, open quantum systems, quantum metrology, and the foundations of quantum physics.
The project also touches on broader questions such as decoherence, the quantum-to-classical transition, the interface between quantum mechanics and gravity, collapse models, and possible modifications of quantum theory. The group aims to build a collaborative research environment, and the postdoc will help shape the direction of this new theory group while working with students and collaborators in Delft and internationally.
Eligibility: applicants should have a PhD in Physics or a closely related discipline by the start date, experience with analytical and numerical modeling of quantum systems, strong English communication skills, and an interest in mentoring and academic development. Backgrounds in quantum optics, quantum technologies, quantum information, or quantum sensing are especially relevant.
Funding and conditions: this is a paid postdoctoral appointment for 2 years, with a possible extension. Salary follows the Dutch university collective agreement, with a stated range of €3706–€5760 per month, plus pension, leave, training, and other employment benefits.
Deadline: apply online by 15 September 2026. Upload a cover letter and CV with publications. Applications by email or post will not be processed.
